Vege-ism

Oh, hey!

I just thought that I'd share with you my favourite vegetarian meat substitute. I am extremely fussy about things like this. I tend to dislike a lot of the vege sausages available, but I found a winner with these!

Frys does a whole range of vegetarian meal ideas, my other favourite from them is the vegetarian patty. They are so easy to cook, you can even do these crumbed schnitzels in the toaster! (but I often don't). And a really great way to bulk up a meal, and they are soooo yummy.

The Lovely Bones was pretty good the other night. I think it was a bit heavy handed with symbolism and the whole 'heaven' part, but I know this was in the book, and overall they did well I think. But it was long! It repeated the same scenes over and over (for emphasis) but I really don't think it needed to be that long. Needless to say it completely creeped me out though. I'm taking it easy today, trying to figure out what to take to a bbq/drinks tonight with the work mates.

Happy Friday

The other morning I woke up extra early, and the great thing about this apartment (I've probably said this a million times) is the fantastic view. And since I am rarely up so early it was particularly exciting to see it. The day was amazing, and after a morning like this why wouldn't it have been?

I haven't been doing a terrible lot, just playing around with the new camera and stumbling around the internet. I picked up this great top from the recycled clothing store in town, it's from Ruby and because it's second hand I got it for a steal! I think my taste in clothes lately has been influenced by Jenny over at wikstenmade. I adore everything that she makes and wears!

I also got a new nail polish, my first OPI colour. I have heard people swearing by this brand, and now I understand. It's fantastic and the names for the colours are brilliant! I got Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow after reading about it on Danielle's blog Sometimes Sweet. It is such a beautiful dark green colour, and now that I have time to paint my nails I've been going crazy looking at all the colours available. Ahh!

I am headed out with Polly and Jo tonight to the The Lovely Bones, I've been waiting to see it for ages but only wanted to see it with these girls. I'm excited!

New Camera!

Tonight we received our new camera, so of course we have been playing with it all night. It is fantastic, but we still have a lot to learn. James knows how to use it, but I need some practise.

Today I went into town with Polly to help her find a dress, but no luck. I got so tired walking around in the heat, since being a student I have definitely lost my stamina for shopping. But it was a nice day and Polly's great to hang out with. This year is going to be our third year at uni together in the same classes. Just over a month to go until summer break is over!

Ah, Summer

It has been so hot these last couple of days, all I've wanted to do is this:

But instead I've been sitting around the apartment watching Gilmore Girls and eating chips. Bleh. This afternoon however, I went to the movies with Polly and saw Whip It. I really enjoyed it and had a laugh.

Tomorrow we get our new camera! A Canon D500, sooo exciting. Looking forward to learning a few things about taking photo's!

Present Time!

It was my work-mates birthday this week so I got her a wee something and last night we went out for drinks and nibbles. I didn't have any birthday wrapping, only left over Christmas wrap and that just wouldn't do. So I got inspired by the beautiful packaging over at Oh, Hello Friend. Her packages are always perfect, so I thought I'd give my own a go with the limited supplies I had on hand.

Tiny Space

After reading on lilysmakebelieve blog about a great new shop in Cross st. I had to go check it out! Very cute and very reasonable, which in Auckland I sometimes find it frustrating to find cheap gems. I got this little ring for only $12!

Then James and I headed out for a wee drink and a catch up.

I am starting to get a little restless from not working full time any more... As much as I love my 'alone time' I definitely love me some spontaneity! L xo

First Video

Piha Trip

Yesterday the weather was beautiful, and hot! So it was the perfect opportunity to take a trip to the beach with Juliette and Miri, and Piha no less! It was my first trip to the west coast and it was perfect.

But first we stopped off at Waikumete Cemetery. I couldn't get over how massive it was, and looking it up on google now I see why. It covers 108 hectares and is the largest cemetery in New Zealand and one of the largest in the southern hemisphere! It was a beautiful place and thanks Juliette for taking us there!

And now Piha...

I was brave and swam a lot more than I usually do in the ocean. It just seems to go forever, I really felt like I was looking at the end of the earth. Can't wait to go back! Right now I'm working on a little video of the trip, only I didn't think to take many videos... so it'll be a short one. L xo

Owl

I finished my owl painting yesterday. It's not what I usually do, but I'm having a light hearted summer and just felt like doing something fun.

Just went to see Up in the Air. Can't say I loved it, I got pretty bored with the whole thing actually.

I had a great day today though, but I'm wiped out so I'll be back tomorrow with the details.

Art Club

James has been out with friends tonight and I've been bored. I even resorted to Age of Empires for a little bit. But then I thought, now is the perfect time to start working on my art. I'm over it now...

This week I am going to try set some goals, perhaps try to draw/paint something. Anything. Every day. We'll see how that goes. L xo

Le Tour de Trois

Last night I went to the Bacco room with Juliette and Miriam to see Flip Grater, Marianne Dissard and Delaney Davidson on their tour of NZ called Le Tour de Trois. It was a really great night, even the weird awkward waltz I had to do with a poor guy that just wanted to go to the bar to get a drink. Flip Grater was a favourite, she's a kiwi singer and her voice is beautiful.

So now that my hours at work have been cut to one day a week I'm hoping to get stuck into my art, which has been neglected all summer. And I might fit a trip to the beach in there too. L xo

Earthlings

So after a little prompting from Polly I finally got the nerve to watch the documentary Earthlings, narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. Needless to say I cried most of the way through it, but after being vegetarian for nearly 9 months I have never regretted my decision and movies like this make me feel even more sure about my lifestyle choice.

Gym time

So today was my first ever trip to the gym. I got up at 5.30 and after the shock of realising that the sun wasn't yet up I made my way down to the gym for a spin class. I am paying for it now. Lets just say I haven't ridden a bike for a while and I'm feeling it. But I enjoyed it, and may even go again =o
