Catching Up

Our internet has been down for a week because we went over our cap, blah! Probably one of my biggest annoyances. It's embarrassing how much I use the internet and when it's not there I don't know what to do with myself.

This is the day after James finished his summer school exams and we went to St Heliers and found a lovely spot to take photos. It was a great day and despite the clouds it was hot, hot, hot!

Bandwagon

Everywhere people are posting about Alexa Chung and her collection for Madewell and I have to say, I'm a fan.

Belated Valentine

We had visitors last sunday so James promised me a date night last night because he had his last summer school exam yesterday! He is a free man for a week before we go back to uni full time. So I hope to make the most of it.

We went and saw Broken Embraces last night, and we both enjoyed it. Penelope Cruz is, of course, amazing and beautiful in it. But I got really excited when I saw the trailer for Taika Waititi's new film Boy. It looks hilarious and so charming, and as of late I have a huge soft spot for kiwi films. As I've mentioned in another post I went and saw Land of the Long White Cloud by Florian Habicht and loved it so I decided to sit down and watch his other film of the same style Kaikohe Demolition (which we have had laying around the house for a while) and it was just as good. So as soon as Boy comes out, I'm there.

It was nice to have an evening out to celebrate 'us' and I'm not big on going over-board with Valentines do da.

Pretty Paint

These watercolours by Anna Emilia are lovely and her blog is sweet too so check it out! I stumbled across her via Daydream Lily and her blog makes me want to take more time exploring my surroundings and get inspired by my environment. I think this is why I love blogging so much, I love looking at everyone else's lovely's and it reminds me to take the time for my own.

Be My Valentine

I love these valentine cards from Able and Game! I saw them recently for sale at Peter Alexander on High St (for you locals) but I'm sure they are available everywhere. My favourite is this one:

But these are great too:

Swonderful

Ahh, another week has begun. On Sunday James and I went and visited Emma (his sister). She has just begun the next stage of her life, after finishing high school and is working towards going to Thailand at the end of the year. We hung out and went for a walk, we wont be seeing her much this year and I got a wee bit (and unexpectantly) emotional on the drive home. She is such a smart, beautiful, amazing young woman and I wish her all the best for 2010!

Emma and I

The last couple of days have been filled with catching up with friends, movies, books and chores. In that order!

Julz and Alex
Me and Alex

We watched The Road. I am a huge fan of the book by Cormac McCarthy so I was very excited to see it come to life in film. It was very good and so loyal to the story, Viggo Mortensen is amazing! It seems like recently so many of my favourite books have been made into movies and I always enjoy seeing how it is translated.

Not a lot of art happening at the moment, lazy summer days. L xo

Aww

So, I'm pretty much on the fence about babies. I smile from afar, and despite working in a childcare centre last summer I don't tend to get too close. But this trailer is adorable and melted my stone cold heart. (Ok, I don't mind babies so much).

All together now.... Awww....

Jenny Hart

photo by Aubrey Edwards for Juxtapoz magazine

So, I have recently come across Jenny Hart and her amazing embroidery. I had heard of Sublime Stitching before (her creation), and seen them in local stores but never seen the work of the lady herself. I love her work so much, I wish I had a collection of it around my apartment.

I love seeing the traditional brought to life with contemporary, embroidery is so delicate and I can appreciate the time put into each piece. If you are interested there is a good interview over at My Love For You.

Hope everyone's having a good day. I am completely bored, and no work this Saturday because of Waitangi day. So, feel welcome to entertain me!

Land of the Long White Cloud

Tonight James and I headed down to Academy Cinema to check out NZ director Florian Habicht's film Land of the Long White Cloud. It is a peek into the lives of the locals up north in Kaitaia as they compete in a 5 day fishing competition. I loved this movie so much that my face hurt by the end from smiling. Even though fishing isn't my thing and I wasn't too happy watching the 'killing' part, Habicht asks the wide range of characters interesting questions that they are more than happy to be open about. Truly a heart warming film, it reminded me of my childhood living in Papamoa and I left feeling nostalgic about our beautiful country.
