Seriously

I don't get it. Macaroons feature on nearly every blog in an array of wonderful photos and I was intrigued. They are very pretty colours and look like they would be delicious, I'm always up for trying a sweet treat. So I got one in a cafe a little while ago, Lavender flavour. Is that where I went wrong? Was it the flavour? Because it was a disgusting little morsel and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. (I feel like I just committed a blogging crime). I was expecting a light texture like a meringue but it was so very...different. After reading a bit more on them now I realise that they are described more as a biscuit, so perhaps it was just my incorrect expectations... or my unsophisticated kiwi palette. Maybe one day I'll give them another go but for now I'm happy to just look at the pictures and keep on wondering about this extreme blog-world fascination with macaroons.

Seaweeds

Today has been quite leisurely and I have just been floating around doing bits and pieces. I have completely finished my costume for this weekends party, but poor James' needs some work. I just need to source some glowsticks.... pictures will come later when it's all done.

We are heading toward mid year break at uni, which means lots of assessments and stress, but I actually enjoy the 'finishing up' of projects and seeing everyone's work come together. This is what I have been up to:

I haven't tired of drawing seaweed yet, it's so quiet and simple and I love it.

P.S. I recently (just then) came across the movie Cracks. Has anyone seen it? Its set in a 1930's boarding school and the screen caps look quite dreamy.

Necklace

The wonderful girls that I work with gave me the biggest surprise I think I've ever had! We went out after work for a little leaving do' for two ladies who have been lucky enough to find jobs and begin their careers in the big wide world when all of a sudden they had a gift for me! It was so sweet and I couldn't have been more taken aback. The gift just happens to be the necklace I was pining after for months, and then it suddenly sold (I now know who to). I was devastated. However, I am now the happiest girl in the world.

So thank you! And I wish the two ladies leaving the best of luck in their new adventure. L xo

Hand-in Time

Tomorrow is my hand in and critique for my intaglio brief. This week has been so stressful and physically exhausting, printing is hard work! I'm happy to have a weekend with friends and lots of rest. These pictures are making me happy at the moment:

All via weheartit. The last one reminded me of the cover of the book I am reading at the moment, Drop City by T.C. Boyle. It's pretty good so far, but I've only just started.

Now for some much needed sleep.... L xo

Anniversary

IMG_0012

James and I happily celebrated our 4th year anniversary. I had to work during the day but the evening was perfect. We stayed in and ordered Italian food from a little restaurant down the road, Sicilian Feta pizza and Pumpkin and Walnut ricotta in a blue cheese sauce, it was lovely! I made a playlist of some of the songs we used to listen too often when we first got together which we played while we ate, and I'll post it on here for your listening pleasure =) We topped off the night with a movie, Milk which we hadn't yet seen and both really enjoyed. I cried, more than I did today in Dear John. Take that Nicolas Sparks.

(He didn't get the anniversary wrong, he's counting down the self timer photos...aha)

The last four years have been wonderful and I look forward to many more celebrations in the future. L xo

Next crafty project

After finishing my quilt I have been a bit bored and decided to start on my costume for a combined 21st for two dear friends. It's animal theme, which is awesome but I had a hard time picking just one animal to go as and even though a hybrid animal is interesting I settled on one. (But I'm keeping it a secret for now).

The humble beginnings....

And some other photos:

I took the day off uni today and watched Marie Antoinette and dreamed of lace, ruffles and cake. L xo

Check and check

I am feeling pretty awesome at the moment because I am on top of things for once. I finished my essay three days before it's due (no thanks to my THIRD laptop charger blowing up!) and I finally finished my quilt I was making. Yay!! Plus I have some pictures of the prints to share that I've been doing lately. =)

The prints are acid etchings and dry point etchings, I'm getting the hang of it now and it's pretty fun. Plus, acid etching sounds hard core. L xo

Movie Night

Tonight we went and saw Iron Man 2, after watching the first one earlier this week. I really enjoyed them both, I love a good action movie from time to time and Gwyneth Paltrow makes me feel better about not being able to walk in heels... har har. But! The trailer for Tomorrow When the War Began came on and I had no idea that the books were being made into a film. I read them in high school and they are one of my favourite series. I must say the movie doesn't look nearly as good, probably due to the distracting girl from Neighbours but I'll try not to judge it too much before I see it. It's exciting to see this series come to life though so I'm really looking forward to it.

It makes me want to re-read the books again, I've been trying to convince James for years.

This week is going to be serious essay writing time, lots of printing and hopefully some photography for fun. L xo
